Artist Spotlight : Keith Haring

Keith Haring was an American artist who really loved children for their fresh eyes on the world. Keith loved to draw! He was inspired by the culture that could be found on the streets of New York, the city where he went to art college. There he learned about break dancing, dj-ing, and graffiti - you will find examples of the things he loved in his art. Keith loved to draw and paint BIG !!! Do you like to make BIG art, too?

His art shows us a message of unity, love, and fun. He uses a technique that we like to call contour drawing . This means he uses only line to create his images. He also uses a lot of primary colours and highly saturated colours. This makes his paintings, murals, and sculptures really bright and colourful!

What words would you use to describe what you see and feel when you look at Keith's art?

Check out this really cool website created in Keith's honour (he passed away in 1988 from complications of the AIDS virus). His love for children and their art lives on in his memory thanks to his wonderful family, friends, and fans.
